I had never heard about England's War of the Roses,
[much to my surprise, wine was the reason.
Once, when I told a Cretan "you make unique wine",
[he replied, George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, was convicted of treason,
and was executed, according to his wishes, by drowning in wine from Crete,
a wine that soothes all the worries, even the sense of death,
[an ancient Greek treat,
and his older brother Edward IV of England,
[was bound by law to respect every convict's last wish.
I rushed and tasted this famous Malvasia wine,
[and in a while I heard in my ears a rumbling, a swish...

* Monemvasia - Malvasia wine,
History: The MALVASIA geographical name was suggested and the Byzantine town of Monemvasia at the Franks who called so and wine of Monemvasia.The vineyards were located in the Dorian Chora, the area of the Epidaurus district of Limira, which was a favorable environment for viticulture. The sweet coastal climate combined with the soil-conditioning configuration was the exceptional qualities that gave the unique quality of MALVASIA wineThis was where MALVASIA was produced before the 13th century when the local merchants loaded on ships from the port of Monemvasia. In Byzantine times the economy of castles like Monemvasia was based on commerce. After the 14th century, these cities acquire significant privileges and make free purchases in all major shopping centers.In these the merchants traded in Monemvasia Monemvasia wine or the MONEMVASIO Monemvasia Monemvasia that the Venetians and Genoese merchants were selling the MALVASIA name.For centuries, the dominance of Greek Monemvasia-MALVASIA in the foreign markets of the East and the West continued. It began to be produced before the 13th century in Byzantine Monemvasia and continued to Venetian-occupied Crete until the middle of the 17th century. No other wine gained so much reputation during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and no wine name since then has such an interesting history.The wine trade of that time with the MALVASIA wine was enormous and is evidenced by the surviving commercial acts of the time. It was, therefore, Malvasia a Byzantine wine with a geographical name of origin. This name is considered a historical designation of origin.
