Francisco Vázquez de Coronado (Anglicized as "Vasquez de Coronado) was a conquistador
[whose expedition marked the first European sightings of the Gr. Canyon and the Colorado River,
a guy who hoped to reach the Cities of Cíbola, the mythical Seven Cities of Gold,
[cities with endless riches which he wanted to present to the King and deliver.
Coronado explored, researched, and expedited the future southern and midwestern United States
[ie. the modern states of Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico,
and later became Governor of the Kingdom of Nueva Galicia (New Galicia),
[a province of New Spain located northwest of Mexico.
In 1952, the United States established Coronado National Memorial
[near Sierra Vista, Arizona to commemorate his expeditions.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade references the "Cross of Coronado"
[and in Phoenix, Arizona the Coronado Road reminds us of his risky missions.
