1477, England

Margaret of York, Duchess of Burgundy

Too many times, I have wondered how William Shakespeare,
[widely regarded as the greatest writer,
preferred to write about Romeo and Juliet,
[and not about Charles and Margaret, a story brighter.

In the year of 1477, killed at the Battle of Nancy Charles the Bold,
                                                                     [the last Duke of Burgundy,
that brought consequences for Europe's future, that of great uncertainty.

The Burgundian domains, long wedged between the growing powers,
[of France and the Habsburg Empire, were divided,
the precise disposition of the vast and disparate territorial positions was involved,
[and disputed among them for centuries, doubts obvious or hided.

This Battle fought by Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy,
[against René II, Duke of Lorraine, outside of Nancy's walls,
and it was fatal for Charles, the final and decisive battle,
                                                                                [of the Burgundian Wars....

Charles died, but remains immortal in people's minds,
[his love for cousin Margaret of York, a real beauty,
a timeless love that nothing could prevent or undermine,
[nor even the two marriages of Charles by royal duty.
