1540, El Draque

Francis Drake was born this year (1540) in Tavistock, Devon, England,
[the future famous, slave trader, explorer, sea captain and privateer,

Drake's father apprenticed him to his neighbour, the master of a barque* who later
[bequeathed the barque to Drake and this began his adventurous and long career.

He carried out the second circumnavigation of the world
[in a single expedition, the year one thousand five hundred and eighty
and was the first to complete it as captain throughout the entire circumnavigation.
[in a trip grievous, important and weighty.

Exploits and privateering made him a hero to the English and a pirate to the Spanish
[known to them as El Draque (a mythical monster like a giant reptile).

Queen Elizabeth awarded Drake a knighthood but King Philip II offered a reward
[for his capture or death of 8 million US dollars in modern currency (Spanish Royal file).

A short poem that describes a historical figure, perhaps a study,
[maybe a portrait or a sketch or a profile.
