1488, More equal than others

Coat of arms of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor

That year, Maximilian A΄ was King of the Romans,
[King of the Germans, and Holy Roman Emperor from 1493.
Jokingly I would say, three titles in a package,
[or conversely a pack of three.

For a foreigner, a stranger, it is very difficult to understand,
[what the Holy Roman Empire was exactly,
I don't know personally,
                                   [I don't know directly, matter-of-factly..

So I started researching the internet with curiosity indeed,
but it was difficult to understand,
[a theme unspecified, indefinite, covert, unspied...

I finally concluded, perhaps wrongly,
[that it was a partnership of states,
which decided to have a common goal and fate.

Of course one can not liken that empire
                                            [to the present European Union,
though both partnerships have an obvious common point,
                                                       [according to my opinion.

In both partnerships, the heads of the various states,
[whose members were equal to each other,
but in both, Germany was more equal than others.”
