1523, Spanish conquest of Nicaragua

The Nicaraguan unit of currency, the córdoba, is named for him

Hernández de Córdoba, under orders of Pedrarias Dávila,
[sailed from Panama to today what is known as Nicaragua in mid-October 1523.

With two hundred men, including officers, foot soldiers and cavalry,
[all embarked and crammed into four ships, or possibly three.

Francisco Fernández (Hernández) de Córdoba, conqueror of Nicaragua.
[not to be confused with Francisco Hernández De Córdoba a conquistador of the Yucatán.
Even the Spaniards, old and modern, confuse these two conquerors,
[and even more of the foreign historians (deep confusion)

Fernández de Córdoba was a Spanish soldier of fortune who came to Panama
[and in the service of Pedrarias, he was captain of the guard at Panama City in 1519.

Pedrarias sent him to Nicaragua in 1523 and there Fernández founded
[the cities of Granada and León and some villages, about nine,
like the village of Bruselas, the first European settlement
[in what is today Costa Rica.

Legend says that Fernández was literally enchanted
[by the beauty of this place and he cried "Eureka"
the famous exclamation attributed to the Greek inventor Archimedes
the Eureka effect, the sudden realization of a problem's solution

Later he tried to take control of the territory of Honduras and to establish a kingdom'
[independent of Pedrarias, a kind of personal revolution…

Pedrarias came to Nicaragua, captured Fernández and after a trial, accused of treason,
[the court simply has endorsed the predetermined execution.
